Ree Drummond discovered that her easy cinnamon roll technique could be translated into a delicious pizza roll recipe. The Pioneer Woman star takes the elements of a pizza but makes it into a snackable size that’s great for a movie night or football game day.
Ree Drummond developed a spin on pizza rolls
Drummond wrote about the pizza rolls recipe in a 2016 blog post on The Pioneer Woman website and had a few disclaimers and pro-tips for anyone making the “crazy rolls” she made “on a whim” with leftover cinnamon roll dough.
“I was working with no recipe whatsoever, and had no plan,” she confessed. “The idea came together in about 5 minutes. Kind of like my idea to start a blog 10 years ago.”
Drummond also admitted that she would have added some other options to the recipe when she made it and took photos, but she didn’t have enough cheese, pepperoni, or black olives on hand.
The Pioneer Woman star shared how she was inspired to try this recipe after making cinnamon rolls and learned something valuable in the process. “I determined that the next time I make these babies, I will use a true pizza dough with a little more chew to it,” she explained. “This dough was a little too soft to pass for pizza.”
Drummond adjusted the recipe accordingly and included pizza dough in the list of ingredients.
‘The Pioneer Woman’ star’s pizza rolls recipe is easy to assemble
Drummond’s pizza rolls recipe is so easy to make and uses store-bought ingredients so there’s not a lot of prep. She starts by rolling the dough into a rectangle, brushes olive oil over it, and sprinkles on salt.
Then it’s as easy as piling on pizza toppings, which will become the inside of the snack once the dough is rolled up.
Drummond spreads on marinara sauce, parmesan and mozzarella cheeses, and jarred pesto, but said you can add any toppings you like (such as pepperoni, cooked Italian sausage, or black olives).
“And then I decided to try something weird,” Drummond shared. “I unwrapped a few pieces of string cheese and lay them in a line across the top of the dough. I have no idea what I’m doing or how this is going to turn out.
But it’s bread and cheese, friends. What could possibly go wrong?”
Drummond rolls the dough up, sharing that her technique is to begin at the string cheese… Brinkwire Entertainment short news.
