Property: How to increase the value of your property by almost £50,000 by cleaning up your garden.

The average UK house price has increased to little under £250,000 in the last year. If you’re planning to sell your home, a price increase of more than £50,000 might help you land your dream home. Here’s how sprucing up your garden might increase the value of your property.

For many home purchasers, outdoor space has become a must-have. In fact, according to The Cumberland, 85 percent of 200 first-time buyers said having a garden was crucial to them. Some poll respondents stated they worked on their gardens first before starting any other home improvement project. Property priorities have shifted in the previous 18 months, with purchasers seeking greater room and a garden.

Eric Robson OBE, former principle chairman of BBC Radio 4’s Gardeners’ Question Time, remarked that access to outdoor space has been emphasised during the pandemic.

“We’ve seen this pushed into sharp focus by the epidemic and the lockdowns, that here is a little of precious space for folks who would be caged in if they didn’t have a garden,” he added.

Now, it appears that a respectable, well-kept garden might increase the value of your property by up to 20%.

This equates to a £53,200 increase in the average home’s value.

According to a recent poll by Foxtons Estate Agents, a garden is also vital to 62 percent of their consumers.

Another 72% said they would pay more for a home with some type of outside space.
