Prodigal Son season 1 ended with a murderous finale that left several burning questions for viewers. Here’s what we know about the FOX series Season 2, including its premiere date, potential storyline and new cast.
In January,’ Prodigal Son’ returns to FOX.
The first season of “Prodigal Son” premiered in September 2019 and lasted through April 2020, and the second season would have been released sometime last fall if everything had gone according to plan.
Yet TV productions worldwide had to shut down because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
And not until the summer of 2020 did several shows start shooting.
It’s been over a year since “Prodigal Son” first aired, but fortunately it won’t take much longer for viewers to plunge back into the family drama of the Whitlys. On Tuesday, January 12, Season 3 premieres at 9:00 p.m.
On FOX, EST. On Tuesdays, new episodes will air weekly and be available to download on the FOX app and website the next day.

Where did they leave season 1?
“Prodigal Son” season 1 allowed viewers to delve into the mind of serial killer Dr. Martin Whitly (Michael Sheen) and his researcher son Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne). Still burdened by the disturbing events of his youth, in the season finale, Malcolm was eventually able to unravel the woman’s mystery in the box.
But Dr. Whitly, as it turned out, was not the villain that Malcolm was looking for. The true murderer was his mother’s boyfriend, Nicholas Endicott (Dermot Mulroney).
And Endicott was murdered by Malcolm’s girlfriend, Ainsley (Halston Sage), to save him.

When “Prodigal Son” returns for Season 2, Oscar-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones will star alongside Michael Sheen’s serial killer character. She will play Dr. Vivian Capshaw, a psychiatric specialist in charge of Dr. Whitly’s supervision.
Dr. Whitly will leave his comfortable hospital room, as EW reports, and be transferred to the infirmary.
Although she assigns him menial jobs, Capshaw will oversee his regular duties.
Yet the psychiatrist develops a newfound admiration for the killer surgeon as she sees his medical prowess.
“Catherine Zeta-Jones, an extraordinary talent, is the perfect foil for the brilliant Michael Sheen,” FOX Entertainment President Martin Thorn said. “I can’t wait to see these two greats go head-to-head in a season that will raise the bar set by an outstanding first season.”
