Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been compared to the Premier League title race, according to Gary Lineker.

GARY LINEKER once compared Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s surrender of their HRH titles to a Premier League title race.

This afternoon, Gary Lineker returns to our screens for a special FA Cup broadcast.

Hull City welcome Premier League opposition to the MKM Stadium in the form of Rafa Benitez’s underperforming Everton.

The FA Cup third round match will be broadcast on BBC One at 5:20 p.m., with highlights of all games airing at 10:30 p.m. on the same channel.

Mr Lineker announced his intention to follow his beloved Leicester City across Europe with his sons when he stepped down as host of BT Sport’s Champions League coverage at the end of last season.

On Saturday evenings, he continues to host Match of the Day and some Match of the Day Live shows for the BBC.

Mr Lineker, one of the country’s best presenters, has amassed a massive social media following — 8.2 million Twitter followers as of this writing — that extends far beyond football fans.

In recent years, he has established himself as a respected liberal spokesperson, first dipping his toe into political waters to condemn FIFA corruption, which received widespread acclaim.

Since then, he’s spoken out on a variety of issues, including his support for Syrian migrants during the refugee crisis, Brexit, and even the Royal Family.

When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced in January 2020 that they would be stepping down from their senior royal roles, they set out to become financially self-sufficient and stopped representing the Queen.

They agreed not to use their HRH titles as part of their departure from royal roles.

Mr Lineker responded to the news by mentioning the Premier League title race.

Manchester City’s title hopes had just been dealt a fatal blow after a 90th-minute Fernandinho own-goal against Crystal Palace left them 13 points behind leaders Liverpool, who had two games in hand at the time.

“Meghan and Harry have renounced their titles,” Mr Lineker tweeted.

“At the same time, Palace has announced that Man City has renounced theirs.”

Fans speculated that the quote could be used in a future episode of Premier League Years after the tweet received 47,900 likes.

“This is a very late night talk show host joke,” Dean Van Nguyen responded.

Sir, I congratulate you on your achievement.”
