Piers Morgan’s wife says that he declined a post with GB News because he “doesn’t need a platform.”

PIERS MORGAN has revealed that he was approached by GB News but declined since he “does not require the platform.”

Piers Morgan, 56, left Good Morning Britain in March, and there has been much conjecture about where he may next appear, perhaps on a new channel called GB News. The TV host, however, does not appear to be in any hurry to return to a news program just yet, admitting that he is pleased to express his views and thoughts to his eight million Twitter followers.

Most people assumed he would jump at the chance to work for GB News, according to his wife Celia Walden, who reported his answer to the speculation: “Of course, they asked.” But I’ve received numerous offers, and it’s not as if I require a platform.

“I have eight million Twitter followers, but for what it’s worth, I believe GB News is on to something and will succeed in the end,” she told The Telegraph.

Piers left Good Morning Britain at the start of the year after a spat with weatherman Alex Beresford over the latter’s remarks about Meghan Markle.

“I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she says,” the father of four remarked during the program after the Oprah Winfrey clip played.

“If she read me a weather report, I wouldn’t believe her.”

“We have begun an investigation into Monday’s program of Good Morning Britain under our harm and offence rules,” an Ofcom representative said afterwards.

Piers addressed his inflammatory comments about Meghan’s mental health on the show after the TV regulator confirmed their inquiry.

“When we talked about this yesterday, I indicated that I don’t believe what Meghan Markle is claiming in this interview in general, and I still have severe doubts about the reality of a lot of what she stated,” he said.

“However, let me explain unequivocally my opinion on mental illness and suicide.

“These are obviously very important matters that should be handled very seriously, and if someone is feeling that way, they should always get the therapy and help they require.”

When Alex questioned his comments, it appeared to be the final straw for the show’s six-year host, who rushed off the stage.

“Brinkwire Summary News,” says the weatherman, who was born to a Caucasian mother.
