Filming for Season 6 of Outlander’s highly awaited new season is scheduled to start in 2021, but that hasn’t stopped fans from wondering how long it’s going to be before then. Luckily, in the meantime, the actors who play our favorite characters continue to be involved on social media. Recently, Sophie Skelton, who plays Brianna MacKenzie, wished her husband Richard Rankin a happy birthday with a photo from behind the scenes.
In North Carolina, Brianna and Roger are both raising their son Jeremiah together.
Fans might recall how Brianna ended up in the past. Via the stones of Craigh na Dun, she moves back in time to alert her parents of an imminent North Carolina fire. Roger MacKenzie (Rankin) flies after her, and they marry in a beautiful ceremony in season 5.
While in season 4 they committed themselves to each other in a handfasting ceremony, only recently did they make things official.
They are raising their son, Jeremiah, together (Jemmy).
But Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speleers) sexually assaulted Brianna, and at the time of his conception, it’s unknown who the biological father of Jemmy is.
But as his own boy, Roger takes Jemmy in and cares for him.
Book readers know Jemmy is really the biological child of Roger.
But Jemmy touches the Stone of Otter’s Tooth in episode 11 and complains that it feels hot.
Brianna and the others get closer, and a humming sound starts to be heard by all the time travelers – Bri and Roger included. It cracks when Jemmy touches the wall. His parents hope this is a sign that Jemmy is really a child of Roger. Also, the family is able to move together via the blocks, while they return to North Carolina immediately.
Brianna and Roger raise their son on Fraser’s Ridge along with Brianna’s family, which includes her mother, Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe), and her father, Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).

Skelton recently shared with her on-screen husband a fun birthday greeting. On January 4, Rankin turned 38 and Skelton wanted to share a funny image of him sitting on the floor while someone was putting a bag over his head. During the filming of the scene where Roger is hanged and left for dead in season 5, it was apparently taken. With a gag in his mouth, Rankin can be seen as he switches off the camera and the crew gathers around the shot. It’s a hilarious Rankin pic, and one that fans are sure to enjoy.
Skelton captioned the Instagram post, “A GREAT HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I hope your day is filled with joy, cake, and all the good things to our most classy cast member Richarddddd…. before we’re back working and you have to put up with me for another year. Muahahahaaha great love!”
Graham McTavish (Dougal MacKenzie) and Hannah James (Geneva Dunsany), who have appeared on the show in the past, also added a birthday shout-out to Skelton. McTavish shares Rankin’s birthday, turning 60. In her birthday update, Skelton also called Erin Cahill.
Roger almost gets killed
Fans may remember that before a war between the British and the Regulators, Roger is assigned to deliver a message to Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser (Duncan Lacroix) in season 5, episode 7. In the process, he meets a woman who is actually his ancestor, whom he has encountered before.
Her husband, Buck, however, tries to beat Roger when he gets the wrong idea and leaves him hanging with the British army prisoners.
In the next episode, though, it turns out that Roger is miraculously still alive, but when they cut him open, his airway has trouble letting air through.
Claire uses her surgical ability to create a hole so that the air can escape from his lungs. After the ordeal, Roger has much trouble recovering, but finally he is able to speak again.
With their own birthday greetings, Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan participated in
