On BBC’s Wild Summer, Chris Packham goes on a rampage against beachgoers, saying, “Don’t get it.”

CHRIS PACKHAM returned to the small screen tonight with his stepdaughter Meg McCubbin on a wildlife-watching road trip to see puffins, otters, and dolphins.

Chris Packham, 60, a naturalist, went on the nature excursion with Meg for the BBC Two show Chris and Meg’s Wild Summer. He astonished spectators by admitting how much excursions to the beach perplex him, in between whining about ice cream and his detest of puffins.

Meg enjoyed an ice cream by the water while the two talked about their plans for the vacation, while Chris lamented that there were no vegan options and had to settle for a slushie.

“What am I going to do with it?” says the narrator. He enquired of Meg, a 26-year-old woman.

“I’ve never had one of these before, is that legal?” he added.

“What is it made of? Is there any radioactive waste? Look at it – all I wanted was some ice cream.”

“Do you remember when we used to judge the quality of our days out by the number of ice creams we ate?” he remarked, reminiscing with his stepdaughter.

“When we’d return home and tell mum we’d had three ice cream days, she’d be disgusted that I’d given you so much sugar,” she says.

“I don’t get the whole beach thing, by the way,” he said as he watched the beachgoers.

“Are you sure?” Meg, who appeared to be taken aback, inquired.

“I’ve been watching it and I’m not sure what’s going on. When did people first start vacationing at the beach?

“Look, all they’re doing is laying on the ground.”

Meg said, “I enjoy going to the beach.” “You sit down, take a breather, and watch the waves come in and out,” says the narrator.

“It’s good for you.” Chris contended that when Meg was younger, he never took her to the beach.

She replied, “I wouldn’t want to live far from the ocean.”

“There isn’t a better view than this because it just makes me happy.”

“Wow, look at this coastline! It’s breathtaking!” Chris sarcastically questioned, “Isn’t there a better view than this?” as he looked about.

“You’re lowering the bar, God.” He noted the boats as he gazed out to sea, adding, “Oil tanker.” Lovely.

“I adore the view from atop an oil ship. What am I talking about? Two oil ships, to be precise.”

Some spectators, though, agreed with Chris’ viewpoint on the beach.

“As ever, @ChrisGPackham is a man after my own heart,” one Twitter user remarked. “Brinkwire Summary News” is a phrase I’ve never heard before.
