Naga Munchetty’s ‘heartbreak’ as a Radio 5 guest tears up on-air and apologizes.
NAGA MUNCHETTY broke down in tears live on-air today, sharing her sadness.
Naga Munchetty, a BBC Breakfast presenter, was overtaken with emotion after receiving a devastating call from Arefa Shafaei. The Afghan-born student broke down in tears when speaking on Radio 5Live about her concerns.
Arefa, who is preparing to complete a degree in International Human Rights Law in the United Kingdom, said she is “devastated” by the Taliban’s recent takeover of Afghanistan.
In the midst of the takeover, she asked British and American forces to return to the country.
Britain’s 20-year effort in Afghanistan has come to an end with the departure of the final UK flight transporting military and diplomatic employees from Kabul airport.
In the last two weeks, 14,000 individuals have been evacuated from Afghanistan.
Arefa held back tears as she became emotional while speaking with Naga about the current problem.
“I’m pleading with the United States and the United Kingdom to return to Afghanistan,” she said.
“They knew what would happen if they fled. I’m pleading with all world leaders to exert pressure on Pakistan and not leave Afghanistan in such a precarious position.”
“We’re all humans,” Arefa remarked. There isn’t any distinction between us.”
During the ongoing situation in Afghanistan, the student claimed that she has been unable to eat or sleep.
Arefa explained, “I haven’t been able to eat or sleep since I’ve been here.”
“When I go to bed, I cry. When I first wake up, I cry. I can’t be silent as a human.”
Arefa added that she assisted many displaced people from Afghanistan’s rural areas, and that she can still hear one woman’s remarks about her 14-year-old daughter being stolen from her.
