Naga Munchetty responds to a BBC co-honest star’s article about her role on 5 Live amid fears of a shake-up.
NAGA MUNCHETTY has replied to her BBC colleague after the radio anchor was questioned on social media about a schedule change.
Naga Munchetty, 46, complimented Nihal Arthanayake, 50, of BBC Radio 5 Live on Twitter after the presenter was praised for being a “wonderful addition” to the lineup. It comes just a day after it was announced that the November schedule would be somewhat altered.
Rick Edwards will be the next host of BBC Radio 5 Live’s breakfast show.
He’ll be taking over the morning position from Nicky Campbell, who is slated to have a later time slot.
Before being lauded by Nihal yesterday, Naga, who joined 5 Live last year, seized the chance to congratulate her new colleague.
“I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again,” he wrote, referring to his 107,000 followers. The addition of @TVNaga01 to @bbc5live is fantastic.”
In light of her 259,000 followers, Naga answered, “Ah thanks dear friend.”
Fans reacted angrily to the message, causing some alarm among her regular listeners.
“What’s going to happen in November, tho Naga?” one inquired. Isn’t there a new schedule for Radio 5 Live starting in November?” (sic)
“Agreed,” another inquired, “but I heard Nicky [Campbell] is moving to a later morning show? That’s almost certainly Naga’s current position.”
Naga’s radio show airs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
Nicky confirmed on Twitter yesterday that starting in November, he’ll be hosting from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on weekdays.
In response to a fan, he tweeted that he’ll be on from “9-11am x.”
The BBC has been contacted for comment by this website.
Nicky’s later schedule was confirmed by the official BBC Radio 5 Live account, which tweeted: “Nicky [Campbell] is relocating to deliver a later show on 5 Live every weekday morning.”
