“I burned some chocolate in the microwave,” the homeowner explained (it was melting it and left too long).
“Now my utility reeks, and it stinks much worse every time I use the microwave.”
“Do you have any suggestions about how to get rid of the odor?”
Cleaning fanatics were quick to offer the homeowner advise.
To get rid of the odor, some people suggested using bicarbonate or baking soda.
One person advised soaking baking soda in water for a few minutes.
“[Leave] bicarbonate soda in a little dish in the microwave and leave for a day,” another concurred. The same goes for the room.”
Baking soda is recommended as a low-cost cleaning solution for various areas of a home.
Some people mentioned using lemon to get rid of microwave odors.
They believed that putting lemon slices in water will make the room smell better.
“[Place] lemon slices in water in a microwave-safe dish,” a homeowner suggested.
“It should produce lemony steam; simply wipe it away and leave the door open to air.”
Another person gave the social media user similar advise.
“Squeeze a lemon and slice it up in a microwave dish,” they continued.
“Place a pot of boiling water on top of it. Cook for five minutes on high.
“Close the door for 15 minutes.” Then wipe everything down with kitchen paper. Continue to repeat.”
“Leave the lemon in the water overnight with the door shut if it’s that smelly,” they said.
