Michael Jackson denied that Dirty Diana was inspired by a close acquaintance.
MICHAEL JACKSON revealed whether or not one of his legendary tunes, Dirty Diana, was based on any of the ladies he knew in his life, including a Royal, in 1997.
Michael Jackson’s single Dirty Diana was released in 1988. The song was a major hit for the American artist, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and selling over 1.5 million copies. It was taken from his seventh studio album, Bad. The song’s lyrics have a very unique story embedded in them. “Diana strolled up to me / She said, ‘I’m all yours tonight’ / And then I ran to the phone / Sayin’, ‘Baby I’m alright’ / I said, ‘But unlock the door ‘Cause I forgot the key’ / She replied, ‘He’s not coming back Because he’s sleeping with me’” is a line from the song.
The song’s lyrics depict a woman almost forcing a rock star into bed.
The title and lyrics of the song refer to two women named Diana who were both in Michael’s life.
Diana, Princess of Wales, was the first. The Thriller artist was a personal friend and fan of the Royal, who spent a lot of time on the phone with him.
Michael denied the song was about Princess Diana in an interview with Barbara Walters.

“I wrote a song called Dirty Diana,” Michael remarked in 1997. It has nothing to do with Princess Diana.”
However, the star was aware of the link to Princess Diana and later removed it from a live event that he knew she would attend.
“I took it out of the show in honor of Her Royal Highness…,” Michael said of the incident. ‘Are you going to perform Dirty Diana?’ she inquired.
“I answered, ‘No, I removed that from the show because of you.’ ‘No!’ she exclaimed. I’d like you to take care of it. Make it happen. ‘Sing the tune.’
Diana Ross is another woman who could have inspired Dirty Diana.
Michael and Diana had a tight relationship, with the singer referring to her as his “mother, sister, and lover all rolled into one” in “Brinkwire Summary News.”
