Michael Jackson claimed that Elvis Presley had no influence on him.

Despite giving one of his songs the same title as Elvis Presley’s debut single, MICHAEL JACKSON denied being influenced by the King of Rock and Roll.

Michael Jackson wrote innumerable songs during his five decades on our planet. While working with his brothers in The Jackson 5, he co-wrote a handful of songs with them throughout his early years. Heartbreak Hotel was one of the tracks on the 1980 album Triumph.

In his 1988 autobiography Moonwalk, Jackson recalled writing the song but assured his readers that it had nothing to do with Elvis Presley.

“I swear [Heartbreak Hotel] came out of my head and I wasn’t thinking of any other song when I created it,” he wrote.

Heartbreak Hotel was one of Elvis Presley’s earliest hits, as fans of the King of Rock and Roll will recall.

When it was first published, the song topped the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks in a row, eventually selling over one million copies and becoming Elvis’ first-ever gold record.

Elvis Presley’s Heartbreak Hotel album was inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame in 1995.

“The record company printed it on the cover as This Place Hotel [rather than Heartbreak Hotel]because of the Elvis Presley connection,” Jackson added in his memoir.

“As big as [Elvis] was to music, Black and white, he wasn’t an impact on me,” he continued.

“I believe he came a little too soon for me. Maybe it was more about the timing than anything else.”

Jackson’s song, This Place Hotel, did not chart as well as Elvis Presley’s Heartbreak Hotel, reaching number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Jackson married Elvis Presley’s daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, despite “not knowing” much about him.

In 1993, Jackson proposed to Lisa Marie over the phone.

Unbeknownst to her mother, Priscilla Presley, Jackson and Lisa Marie married in the Dominican Republic in 1994.

The couple was famously featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show to talk about their marriage, relationship, and sex life.

Lisa Marie exclaimed, “Yes!” when asked if they had sex.
