Angela Black is finally making its way to television screens almost a year after it was commissioned, exploring what happens behind closed doors in cases of domestic abuse. Harry and Jack Williams, who created Liar, have penned the six-part drama and they have recruited one of their biggest stars to take the leading role. Best known to audiences as Downton Abbey’s Anna Bates and for playing the leading role in Liar, Joanne has once again collaborated with the Williams brothers.

The actress will be taking on the titular role of Angela, who leads the life of a typical mother of two but she is harbouring a dark secret from the world.

Behind closed doors, she is abused and controlled by her husband and as she tries to keep up appearances, she realises someone has taken an interest in her.

As Angela begins to question the life she has found herself a part of, viewers will be left on the edge of their seats with all the twists and turns.

Joanne said of her character: “Angela is a complex and intriguing character and I hope audiences will be immediately drawn into her gripping, and sometimes heart-breaking journey, just as I was.”

Oliver is the husband of Angela, who uses his manipulative streak to control his wife’s life and he loses his temper with her often.

However, to the outside world, he is the perfect partner and father to the couple’s two children, with his friends not realising the pretence he is putting up.

Playing the role is Dutch actor Michiel, who is also a singer-songwriter and has featured in a multitude of British and Dutch works.

Some of his most well-known performances include playing Ellis Jones in the fantasy film, The Age of Adaline.

Michiel’s television work includes playing Daario Naharis in Game of Thrones and Steven Crain in The Haunting of Hill House.
