Law & Order: For its 22nd season, SVU has returned and it’s already off to an excellent start.
On December 3, Episode 3, titled ‘Remember Me in Quarantine,’ premiered.
The series returns on January 7 after more than a month off, and it is going to be an epic episode.
Prosecutor Rafael Barba (Raúl Esparza), a fan favorite, returns, but he has a different role this time.
As a criminal defense attorney, Barba will be back.
Barba served from season 14 to season 19 as a lawyer for the SVU team in the series. He thrived on his job, and went into the courtroom for an extra mile. He was involved in a difficult case according to his fandom page and turned off the life support of a kid with MDDS. He was charged but ultimately convicted of murder, and he decided to leave his job as an ADA. It was initially Esparza’s decision to leave, but in another episode, season 21, episode 13, titled “Redemption in Her Corner.” he made an appearance.
But that wasn’t the last time we saw Rafael Barba. He’ll return for “Sightless in a Savage Land,” episode 4, which will air on January 7.
On the official social media accounts, the news was confirmed and a promo trailer was released after the airing of episode 3.
It is suggested that Barba will return as a defense attorney and will face ADA Dominick Carisi, Jr. (Peter Scanavino) in the courtroom, according to the eye-opening trailer.
For the party, Carisi is the ADA now, and Barba will be in direct conflict with him.
Carisi asks Barba in a scene from the trailer whether he is “pleading insanity” about a defense.
“I plead not guilty.”I do not plead guilty.
Carisi and Barba are going to have a showdown in the courtroom and it is going to be epic. “Mr.
“Barba is going to play with your feelings,” Carisi told the jury.
As if he wanted to get down to work, you could see Barba rolling up his sleeves.
“Does anyone have a problem with that?” says Barba to the jurors in another moment.
Fans are keen to see how the showdown will work out.
‘Law & Order: SVU: The ‘Bromance,’ which some fans preferred to Benson and Stabler’s dynamic.
As you might expect, this is an event that fans are eager to see.
A recent Reddit post led to a number of fans discussing the possibilities and venting about what could happen.
“What are some hopes for the big Barba v.
Carisi trial on Thursday?” is how one post on Reddit is titled.
The user added, “… I love Barba, but I’m also starting to like Carisi as an ADA. I don’t know, but this might knock him down a notch or two. He’s been awfully jerky since he got his office.”
One fan says it would be “ridiculous if Barba” lost the case against Carisi, considering he’s “one of the best ADAs” the troupe has ever had.
“I like Carisi, but it would be ridiculous if Barba lost,” the Reddit user said. “He is hands down one of the best prosecutors SVU has ever had. Honestly, I would have much preferred Carisi as a detective. It would have been nice to see him move up there instead of turning to the law.”
One fan hopes that Barba wins out over Carisi in this tense courtroom showdown and some sort of mentoring between the two develops. That would make sense considering Barba has a lot of experience and Carisi is just getting his feet wet.
“I hope Barba wipes the floor with Carisi and this will be the start of a nice rivalry/mentorship,” said one fan.
Another fan thinks it’s “no real contest” that Barba will win against Carisi, considering Barba is being set up as a “brilliant lawyer.” “I like Carisi, even though his character development has been lacking this season, but it’s not really a competition,” they said. “They’ve built Barba up as this brilliant lawyer who was trained in the Ivy League, so they can’t let him lose in a fair fight.
Against Carisi? That would be crazy.”
One fan expects some roasting based on Barba “rolling up his sleeves” in the promo. “The way he looks at him in the promo, the way he rolls up his sleeves, tells me there’s going to be some hidden (good-humored) roasts! Just because that’s a thing of theirs, lol,” they said.
