Celebrity conflicts are often the result of unresolved tensions, but it’s uncommon for an argument to escalate into blows in fact.
And yet, that’s exactly what happened at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, when Tommy Lee and Kid Rock, the rock stars, got into a clash that’s mostly ignored today.
Kid Rock and Tommy Lee share a famous ex.
With Tommy Lee’s famous ex-wife, Playboy model Pamela Anderson, the roots of the conflict between Tommy Lee and Kid Rock lie. After a sex tape of them on their honeymoon leaked to the public, Lee and Anderson made headlines in the 1990s.
The two split after three years of marriage in 1998.
The second marriage to Anderson was to another rocker. In 2006, she married Kid Rock, but they only spent four months together. In November 2006, Kid Rock filed for divorce, just weeks after Anderson had a miscarriage.
Tensions boiled over at the VMAs between Tommy Lee and Kid Rock
For the egos of both rock stars, being the ex-husband of a blonde bombshell like Pamela Anderson has been too much.
Not only were the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards remembered for the disastrous comeback success of “Gimme More,” by Britney Spears, but also for the long-awaited Lee and Rock confrontation.
Rock explained why he threw the first punch in an interview on radio station KROQ’s Kevin & Bean Show. He said of the strained relationship between him and Lee, “This has been going on for five years,” “I’ve done what any man would do, any man in the whole country, in the whole world.”
“It just kills me to be associated with him, to have my name in the same sentence with him,”It just kills me to be associated with him, to have my name with him in the same sentence. “It honestly kills me.”
Before their notorious brawl, Rock went on to explain his last encounter with the Mötley Crüe drummer. “The last contact I had with him was when me and Pam were going through our divorce,”The last contact I had with him was when Pam and I were going through our divorce process. “He took her Blackberry and started emailing me a lot of horrible things. It was extremely disrespectful.”
Ashanti was almost part of the notorious fight at the VMAs between Kid Rock and Tommy Lee
The cause of their claim was not Pamela Anderson.
For his part, Lee mentioned in a post on his website the encounter. “Here I am, minding my own business, when I get tapped on the shoulder by Kid Pebble,” Lee said. “I get up, give him a half hug and say, ‘Hey, buddy…. What’s up? He’s punching me in the face…. Well, if you want to call it that!” He added that the hit was “more like a b*tch slap.”
In his radio interview, Rock explained that the beef with Lee had nothing to do with Anderson. At the very least,”It has the very least to do with that,”it has to do with that. “it was a bad career move to get involved with her because your life becomes a circus,”getting involved with her was a bad career move because your life becomes a circus,”what she wants is media attention.”what she wants is media attention.
Anderson rose above the fray and in a personal post on her website expressed her thoughts. She said flippantly, “Funny how things reveal themselves,” “I’m lucky to have my wonderful kids and great friends and lovers. Life is good. Vegas is fun. I’m still living the dream.”
