Jennifer Lawrence Exaggerated Her ‘Don’t Look Up’ Role by Getting High on Set.

To get into character for the new comedy Don’t Look Up, Jennifer Lawrence used some serious method acting. Lawrence stated she used cannabis on set to get into the mind of her character — a frequent stoner – at a Qandamp;A event with fans this week, according to Indie Wire. Thankfully, the film was shot in Boston, Massachusetts, where marijuana use for recreational purposes is legal.

Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi, Cate Blanchett, Himesh Patel, Matthew Perry, and Chris Evans feature in the Netflix original film Don’t Look Up. It follows the narrative of two relatively low-level scientists who are the first to notice that a comet is on a crash course with Earth, and it was co-written and directed by Adam McKay. Dr. Kate Dibiasky, Lawrence’s character, smokes cannabis to cope, and Lawrence has admitted to having tried it herself.

The 31-year-old actress assured listeners, “I know what you’re going to say, and I wasn’t pregnant [at the time].” Lawrence and her husband Cooke Maroney announced in September that they are expecting their first child together, years after filming was over.

“You were not pregnant,” McKay said during the Q&A, adding, “may I say this?” “I believe so,” Lawrence replied, “but don’t tell my mother-in-law.” Lawrence went on to say that she had expressly requested permission to smoke genuine cannabis on set during one scene with Streep in which there was no planned dialogue, “because my character was getting high in the movie.” “‘Are you going to throw me some improv?’ Jen inquired. That is something we constantly do “McKay continued. “‘No, you can get high,’ I replied. I kept going to Cate Hardman, my script supervisor, and saying, ‘I just want to say, hi, Jen.’ I believe I have a monologue suggestion for you.’ And I’d look at Jen and say, ‘I’m sorry, but I’m not up to it.’ It would be cruel.’ As a result, I left you alone.” Lawrence joked that not everyone was considerate of her condition. She stated, ” “I was a prime target for assassination. Every single person in the room was f-ing with me… I suppose it was because I was high. It’s simple to f- with.” Lawrence’s dedication to method acting appears to be paying off, as early reactions to Don’t Look Up have been overwhelmingly positive. On Friday, December 10th, the film will be released in select theaters… Summary of Entertainment News from Brinkwire.
