Jamie Lee Curtis insists she is ‘proud’ to be the only actress to attend the Golden Globes despite the controversy.

JAMIE LEE CURTIS has expressed her pride in being the only female celebrity to attend the Golden Globe Awards, despite a diversity boycott.

The once-prestigious awards show was snubbed by celebrities this year after a diversity scandal exposed the lack of black members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and the event was dropped by NBC. However, Jamie Lee Curtis defied the trend and said she was “proud to be associated with” the HFPA, which produces the annual Golden Globes.

It gives me great pleasure to be associated with them.

More than a hundred Hollywood public relations firms threatened to advise their celebrity clients to stop working with the HFPA, the organization that oversees the awards, unless it became more diverse.

The HFPA was charged with “discriminatory behavior, unprofessionalism, ethical impropriety, and alleged financial corruption,” as well as allegations of accepting free gifts.

Critics pointed out that there was not a single black person on the board of 87 employees.

The organization has pledged to introduce at least 13 black board members before the 2023 ceremony airs, and has taken steps to increase the number of ethnic minority representatives.

In addition, Philip Berk, the awards’ 88-year-old former president, was expelled last year after sending out a widely circulated email calling the Black Lives Matter movement a “racist hate group.”

However, as a result of the scandals, no celebrity walked the red carpet for the Golden Globe Awards this year.

Jamie Lee Curtis didn’t seem to mind joining in via a pre-recorded video in which she focused on the organization’s philanthropic work rather than the controversy.

Jamie, who has two Golden Globe Awards of her own, praised the organization, saying, “They fund creators and educators… do so in a very low key, off the record evening of giving.”

“I’ve hosted that evening a couple of times.”

“All I wanted to do was honor and stand with them in this continued advocacy of great need and great support that the HFPA continues to serve and offer with their generosity,” she said.

“I am proud to be associated with them in this venture,” the 63-year-old said.
