‘It wasn’t a difficult decision.’ Lorraine Kelly is ecstatic after missing out on the National Television Awards.

LORRAINE KELLY has confessed that skipping this year’s National Television Awards was not a difficult decision, telling supporters that she was “thrilled” to interview tennis legend Billie Jean King instead.

Despite the fact that her co-stars were nominated for an award, Lorraine Kelly had to miss the National Television Awards 2021 last week. The 61-year-old host has now revealed that it was “not a difficult decision.”

Lorraine was granted the opportunity to interview Billie Jean King, the American tennis champion, for her ITV breakfast show, but the interview had to take place at a specific time.

The sole available date fell on the same night as the NTAs, which took place at London’s O2 Arena on Thursday night.

Last night, the TV personality announced on Twitter that the interview would appear on Lorraine today.

She said that the great sportswoman, who won 39 grand slam titles in her career, had some advice for British tennis player Emma Raducanu, who won the US Open over the weekend.

The 18-year-old became the first qualifier to win a grand slam, as well as the first British woman to do so in 44 years.

Lorraine responded on Twitter about her decision to skip the awards presentation, saying, “For me, not a tough choice!”

In light of her 654,800 followers, she said, “So thrilled to have 45 minutes with Billy Jean King – hear her advice for @EmmaRaducanu on tomorrow’s show 9am @ITV.”

In the comments portion of her post, one follower said, “Good for you.”

“BJK was a huge childhood hero of mine, and he inspired my passion of tennis. She is still regarded as a hero. Another commented, “A major lover of [American] people, as my other favourite was Leonard Nimoy, the late US actor best known for playing Spock in Star Trek.”

Lorraine informed her fellow ITV colleagues Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby that she will not be attending the NTAs ahead of Thursday’s episode.

For their TV show This Morning, the presenting duo was nominated for the best Daytime Program award.
