Some of the country’s most promising emerging bands and artists will be celebrated when the Scottish Alternative Music Awards announce the shortlist for the main awards.
Marking the 11th anniversary of the annual celebration of the best of new Scottish music, which shines a spotlight on phenomenal bands and artists across all genres, the ceremony will take place on November 18.
Performers at the ceremony include Glasgow quintet Walt Disco, known for their eccentric style and ’80s new wave and post-punk sound, and Edinburgh DJ, rapper, producer and 2019 SAMA nominee Nova, whose debut solo album Re-Up won the 2020 Scottish Album of the Year Award.
The shortlist was compiled by music industry professionals. Three nominees were allocated to each award category, who were tasked with selecting the four acts that would make up the shortlist.
The number of bands and musicians that emerge from Scotland each year is always incredible, said Jamie Houston, Music Officer, Creative Scotland. A world of talent that needs widespread exposure is behind the curtain of the mainstream. Creative Scotland is once again able to fund SAMA to celebrate voices and talent from the emerging hip-hop, grime, mm of Scotland thanks to National Lottery players
