On March 31, 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, formally stepped down from their royal duties and have since resided in Los Angeles. But while they have left royal life behind, there are still stories and claims of what it was like to work for the pair from across the pond.
Here’s more about that, and why some have speculated that the Duke of Sussex may be more difficult to work with than the former star of Suits.
Meghan was dubbed a ‘hard duchess’
Tom Quinn, author of “Kensington Palace: An Intimate Memoir From Queen Mary To Meghan Markle, revealed who gave Harry’s bride that nickname. You may have seen tabloid stories dubbing Meghan as “Duchess Difficult.
The British press is notoriously good at picking someone up, building them up, and claiming that they are simply lovely.
“And then they need something else when the story goes off the rails, so they come up with the reverse,” Quinn told Fox. “The press picked up the nicknames and used them against Meghan.
They were actually coming out of the palace.
Quinn noted that the Duchess of Sussex was described by palace employees as “prickly and feisty.”
Strict royal fashion laws were never followed by Meghan Markle
Reportedly, she even screamed at Kate Middleton’s staff members.
More reports have recently emerged that Meghan seemed to handle her sister-in-workers law’s badly.
Quinn spoke to sources who told him that the Duchess of Sussex was shouting at a member of the staff of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.
Quinn writes in his book that “Kate was horrified when Meghan shouted at a member of Kate’s staff – that was definitely the start of discussions about leaving Kensington Palace,” explained the former aide (according to the Daily Mail). “Like many people who are not used to dealing with servants, Meghan goes overboard with bossiness; so on the one hand she wants to be like Diana, a princess of the people, and on the other she wants people to stand still when she snaps her fingers.”
After a speech on water safety, Prince Harry struck, despite having 16 baths in his mansion.
Harry clashed over Meghan’s wedding tiara with Queen Elizabeth’s advisor.
There are rumors, however, that often Prince Harry was very demanding and more difficult to please than his wife.
Journalists Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand discuss the friendship and discord of the Sussexes with other royals in Seeking Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a New Royal Family, including a supposed fight between Meghan and Queen Elizabeth II when her wedding tiara was picked up by the duchess.
The writers say there were conflicts, but not with Meghan and the Queen. People noticed that the dispute was between Harry and the dressmaker of his grandmother, Angela Kelly, according to the book. Scobie and Durand wrote that Harry was upset with Kelly because before the wedding took place, he believed she “dragged her feet to help Meghan get access to her chosen tiara for a hair trial”
Royal expert Robert Jobson also spoke via Yahoo! News Royal Box on the subject. “I don’t think Meghan was difficult when she was picking out a tiara, I think Harry was probably overly defensive and overly protective,” Jobson said.
The hair test went ahead without objection or hesitation from the Queen, considering the friction between Harry and Kelly.
