It’s all so easy for Marcia Brady – boys, school, countless awards. But it’s a lot easier to steal the spotlight as a middle child.
For instance, take Jan, who tries to find a special talent to compete with the many trophies and accomplishments of Marcia.
However, Jan’s “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia” freak-out happened only in one episode of The Brady Bunch. For this sitcom, here’s what we learned.
In ‘The Brady Bunch,’ Jan Brady is the middle child.
It’s the story of a man named Brady, a very beautiful lady with six kids.
Greg (Barry Williams), Peter (Christopher Knight,) and Bobby are three of the boys from Mike Brady’s side (Mike Lookinland).
The three girls were Carol’s daughters, Marcia (Maureen McCormick), Jan (Eve Plumb) and Cindy (Susan Olsen).
Jan Brady, a spirited yet mostly ignored student who was living in the shadow of her sister, was in the center of it all.
Jan finally has enough in one episode and shares with her parents her frustration with Marcia.

Jan eventually reveals in ‘Her Sister’s Shadow’ her thoughts towards Marcia.
Being a middle child isn’t easy, especially when your older sister is named Marcia.
Jan decides to put away all her medals and ribbons, disappointed by Marcia’s performance, which leads to a discussion with her parents about respecting Marcia’s belongings.
“Well, all I hear all day at school is how great Marcia is at this or how wonderful Marcia has done,” Jan said. “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!”
Marcia is older, her mother explained, so it’s normal for her to have more awards.
But Marcia found it all too convenient, Jan said, but they were interrupted by another piece of her older sister’s ‘good news’ — she had been made the school newspaper’s editor.
While during many Brady Bunch episodes, Jan fights for the spotlight, her iconic line from this episode is only said once.
“Although it is one of the most famous quotes in the series, “The Brady Bunch: Her Sister’s Shadow (1971) is the only episode in the entire series in which Jan says, ‘Marcia, Marcia, Marcia! ‘And she just says it once,’ notes IMDb.

The line reappeared in “The Brady Bunch Movie” in 1995
Although the last episode of “The Brady Bunch” aired in 1974, the characters reappeared in a film adaptation in the 1990s. Portrayed by various actors, The Brady Bunch Movie tells the story of the extended family as they embark on a new adventure together – saving their home.
This, of course, includes an appearance at a talent show where they hope to raise the prize money.
The film also includes a few iconic moments that first appeared in the sitcom.
These include Marcia’s nose accident with the football and Jan’s “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia” chant.
Episodes of “The Brady Bunch” are available for streaming on Hulu.
