At the age of 82, Gilligan’s Island alum Dawn Wells passed away on December 30th, 2020.
Although the television series only ran for three seasons, the famous girl next door became Mary Ann Summers. It is a surprise that Mary Ann’s original gingham blouse and cut-off shorts sold for so little money, considering the success of the series and the re-runs that still air today.

When she accepted the role, the young girl was earning only $700 a week.
Before she died, Dawn Wells was in huge debt.
Because of her medical costs and $200,000 in unpaid taxes, a Wells friend launched a GoFundMe for the actress in 2018.

While Wells agreed that the situation was tough, she wasn’t happy about starting the fundraiser page with her friend.
“It’s scary,” Wells told Inside Edition. “If you don’t have a family or a husband or someone to pay for you, it’s very expensive.”
Owing to an extreme infection that triggered ever-increasing medical bills, the actress was hospitalized for several months. Still, she was furious at her friend who launched the GoFundMe campaign on her behalf.
I’m not absolutely broke,” she added. “There are families struggling to feed their children out there.
And somebody’s saying, ‘GoFundMe, Dawn.’ I can deal with it! I’m willing to get a job and go to work.
Star Mary Ann’s plaid blouse and shorts sold for a minimum of ‘Gilligan’s Island’
Wells sold her original gingham blouse and denim cut-off shorts from the classic TV series back in 2005.
The Beverly Hills auction house sold the collection for just $20,700, according to the Times.
In the Hollywood Museum lobby, her publicist announces that her gingham dress and famous shorts are on view.
The show’s performers have changed so much that it is not shocking that some of the star’s clothes have been auctioned. Fans wanted the clothes to be sold for greater quantities, though.
