‘I shouldn’t be abused because of my employment.’ Dr. Amir goes off on Lorraine, saying, “It’s not our fault.”
DR. AMIR KHAN launched a heartfelt appeal to GP patients today, urging them to quit abusing doctors during face-to-face meetings.
On Wednesday morning, Dr. Amir Khan joined Lorraine to discuss the heinous abuse that GPs have been subjected to as a result of the lack of face-to-face visits. Dr. Amir Khan, speaking on the ITV show, said that GPs should not be attacked for their jobs, and that it is not their fault.
“I think there is a lot of frustration regarding whether or not we can actually get to visit our doctors face to face from your perspective, what is going on?” Lorraine began.
“I think it’s critical that we get the record right here; as GPs, we have a great deal of empathy for our patients,” Dr Khan said.
“You know, we understand the frustrations of trying to reach a live person on the phone, needing an appointment, and wanting to visit a doctor in person.
“As well, we’d like to see you face to face. He explained, “I’m here at my surgery, and I have to make this clear: I’ve come in an hour early to see patients.”
Dr. Khan informed Lorraine that he had completed examinations, e-consults, and phone calls and so had time for the interview.
He also added that he had to visit a nursing home to conduct a face-to-face ward-round with the residents to determine if there were any issues.
“I, like many GPs around the country, see patients face to face, but if a patient called today and asked for me, I would be unable to accommodate them.
“GPs have never ceased seeing people face to face throughout the pandemic or before, and I’m sure people remember how tough it was to get an appointment before the pandemic.”
“We need more primary care staff,” Dr Khan continued, “and this administration has not invested in primary care as much as they should have.”
“Unfortunately, we now have a situation where a lot of these right-wing media, I won’t name them, but you know who you are, are publishing articles that are blatantly anti-Semitic.
“(They) have begun a targeted, nasty, and heinous campaign against GPs in order to turn patients against their doctors.
“We want to see all of you, but we can’t physically see everyone.
“If you want to point the finger at anyone, point it at the top.” Brinkwire Summary News
