The debut album of Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi was the UK’s most downloaded album of 2020 on Spotify.
Ahead of Fine Line by Harry Styles, Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon by Pop Smoke, and After Hours by The Weeknd, the Glasgow-born, Bathgate-raised singer-album songwriter’s Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Degree topped the charts.
The Scot also made it into the “most popular British artist” UK top five of Spotify. Despite not releasing any music this year, Ed Sheeran took the top spot, ahead of Stormzy, Dua Lipa, Lewis Capaldi and Harry Styles.
The Scotsman’s album recently reached the UK sales mark of 1 million and for a total of 10 straight weeks it has been at No. 1 on the official album chart.

Three songs from the album – Grace, Bruises and Hold Me While You Wait – all entered the Top 10 on the Official Singles Chart, while the breakthrough hit reached #1 for Someone You Loved and Before You Go.
The success of the LP also helped Capaldi break an official chart record held by Ed Sheeran – with an unbroken 77-week run in the Top 10, setting a solo artist’s record for most weeks in the Top 10.
Ed Sheeran previously held the record for his third album Divide and was in the top 10 longer than Adele’s 21 and In The Lonely Hour of Sam Smith.
This year, Canadian rapper Drake topped the UK’s list of most-streamed Spotify artists.
Juice WRLD was edged out by the’ Hotline Bling’ performer, while Eminem took third, Ed Sheeran fourth and The Weeknd fifth.
Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny, with 8.3 billion streams, was the most streamed artist worldwide.
Uk fans were unable to get enough of The Weeknd’s Dazzling Lights when it came to music, listening to it more than every other album in 2020.
SAINt JHN’s Roses, remixed by Imanbek, was the second most listened to album, while Rockstar by rappers DaBaby and Roddy Ricch came in seventh.
Capaldi joined the prestigious list of 20 artists in October who have spent a year or more in the top ten album charts on an ongoing basis.
Rubbing elbows with the likes of The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Mike Oldfield and Dire Straits, he was inducted into the Album Chart Hall of Fame.
In the top ten of the album charts, the LP, which spawned the worldwide chart-topping hit single Someone You Loved, also spent 77 consecutive weeks.

It overtook the 1973 classic Tubular Bells from Mike Oldfield, which made it to 55 weeks, Dire Straits’ 1985 Brothers in Arms with 60 weeks, Help Please Me, the Beatles’ 1963 debut album, which made it to 62 weeks, and Sam Smith’s 2014 debut with 69 weeks in The Lonely Hour.
It also outpaced Adele’s second album of 2011, 21, which made it in the top 10 for 71 consecutive weeks, and Ed Sheeran’s X and Divide albums, which made it to 74 and 76 weeks, respectively.
The cast recordings or soundtracks are nine of the twenty LPs on the list.
For South Pacific, which achieved 180 consecutive weeks in the top 10, it could not beat the record for consecutive weeks in the top 10 belonging to such a soundtrack.
