‘How is it possible that this is happening?’ Lorraine Kelly responds to the news that she will be leaving her ITV post after 37 years.

LORRAINE KELLY has said her goodbyes to ITV great Fred Dinenage, who will retire at the end of the year after nearly four decades as a news anchor.

Lorraine Kelly used Twitter Wednesday night to say ITV News Meridian presenter Fred Dinenage farewell. Following the revelation that the news anchor will be stepping down at the end of the year, the television host paid a suitable homage online.

The 79-year-old is the network’s longest-serving regional newscaster, having spent over 38 years on the six o’clock broadcast in the south and south east.

“HOW COULD THIS BE HAPPENING?” says the narrator. Lorraine said on Facebook when she informed her 658,800 followers about Fred’s departure.

The accompanying post provided a photo of the presenter as well as additional information.

“When I was a youngster, was he the how for now guy?”

In the comments portion of the post, Instagram user ianmcaldow inquired.

“And that’s all there is to it for now!” onetasha responded, ostensibly addressing the questions and quoting the newsreader’s famous catchphrase.

Aside from reporting the news, the television personality is well known for hosting the educational shows How and How 2.

Fred admitted that leaving ITV was a “difficult” decision, but he is looking forward to spending more time with his wife Beverley.

The couple married in 1967 and have three grown daughters, one of whom is Caroline Dinenage, the Conservative MP for Gosport.

Following the announcement, Fred expressed his gratitude by saying: “I’ve finally chosen to hang up my microphone after nearly 38 years of co-presenting the ITV six o’clock show in the south and south east.

“It was a difficult decision, but I now want to spend a few years in my garden with my wife, Beverley, and our three dogs,’smelling the roses,’ and spending time in the Austrian mountains.

“I’ll keep doing my crime shows and ITV’s ‘How?’ as well as authoring books, including one that was recently commissioned. However, I believe it is now time to move on.

Fred went on to express his gratitude to his co-host and the audience for their continued support over the years.

“Sangeeta [Bhabra], my wonderful co-presenter, and my colleagues at ITV Meridian will be sorely missed.

“And, of course, I’ll miss our loyal viewers who have shown me so much love and support over the years.

“I’ve been so fortunate in my life and career – I’ve worked nonstop for fifty-eight years. “Brinkwire Summary News “..
