Henry Winkler is the star of three unexpected Netflix hits.
Henry Winkler is a well-known actor who has appeared on both the big and small screens, and he seems to be making waves on Netflix as well. Not one, not two, but three of the 76-year-old actor’s films have made Netflix’s top ten lists. Despite the fact that none of these films feature Winkler, he plays vital supporting roles and elevates them all, as he does in everything he does, whether it’s HBO’s Barry or Disney(plusMonsters )’s at Work.
The 2012 Sony film Here Comes the Boom, which the streaming service is now licensing, is the first major Netflix title to feature Winkler. This Kevin James-directed film is the platform’s No. 1 kids project, as well as the No. 2 movie, behind only Red Notice. The film, in which Winkler plays teacher Marty Streb, is the No. 7 project on the service when all movies and TV episodes are taken into account.
The official summary for Here Comes the Boom is as follows: “Scott Voss (Kevin James), a 42-year-old indifferent high school teacher, is a former NCAA wrestler. When budget cuts threaten to eliminate some of the school’s programs and force the music instructor (Henry Winkler) to resign, Scott devises a plan to raise funds by moonlighting as a mixed martial arts fighter. Everyone, especially the school nurse, Bella, believes Scott is insane (Salma Hayek). Scott wins something unexpected as a result of his quest: he inspires his kids and becomes a sensation who rallies the entire school.” Next, Winkler’s latest film, the animated blockbuster Extinct, is rocketing to the top of the box office. It’s the third highest-grossing film of all time, behind Red Notice and Here Comes the Boom, and the third-highest-grossing film for children, behind the James film and the TV show Cocomelon. In the new film, Jepson, the Happy Days legend plays a character named Jepson, which was released on Netflix on November 19th. “Two Flummels find themselves transported from 1835 to modern-day Shanghai,” according to the official summary. Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You is an unexpected credit that is Winkler’s third current Netflix smash. In the animated film based on Carey’s classic Christmas song, he plays Grandpa Bill. Even though it isn’t even Thanksgiving yet, the holiday special is now the service’s No. 6 Kids title. As the Christmas season approaches, it’s expected to grow even higher.
