Dante and Olivia Falconeri, one of the most significant mother-son partnerships in General Hospital, are played by Lisa LoCicero and Dominic Zamprogna.
Their engagement is just as effective off-screen as it is on.
Dominic Zamprogna and Lisa LoCicero as Dante and Olivia Falconeri in “General Hospital”.
Dante was introduced into the series as police officer Dominic Pirelli.
His biological father, Sonny Corinthos, who he did not know was his father at the time, was initially investigated by the character. It was later discovered that, with Olivia, he was Sonny’s son.
Dante also had a relationship with Lulu Spencer, who he later married, apart from the storylines surrounding his mother and father.
The character had encounters with Brook Lynn Ashton and Brenda Barrett, Sonny’s former lover. With Lulu, he has a boy, Rocco Falconeri. Britt Westbourne carried Rocco, who stole her embryo and made people think the child with Patrick Drake was her own son. Well, since he first left town, Dante and Lulu haven’t been married.
As for Olivia, she was introduced in the show as the cousin of Kate Howard, aka Connie Falconeri. In 2008, she first appeared in the show and has since played the character in the series.
She came to Kate and Sonny’s wedding in town. When they were both teens in Brooklyn’s Bensonhurst neighborhood, Olivia dated Sonny as well. It was soon discovered that Olivia had Dante when she was 15, and she kept the secret from both him and Sonny for years.
Outside the series, the two actors have a bond with one another
Both LoCicero and Zamprogna spoke about their characters in a new interview with Soap Opera Digest and the friendship they have that goes beyond their alter egos on screen.
The very first time she met Zamprogna, LoCicero recalled. “Well, the first time I saw him, Mark Teschner [the show’s casting director]showed me his portrait photo,” she said. And now I’m just going to say this because I said this to you already, Dom – that headshot didn’t look like you! But then we corresponded via text and I was very pleased to see that he has a great sense of humor and is cool.
Then he came [to Los Angeles]looking for an apartment, and he turned up on my doorstep, and we looked at apartments. You looked really young because you had a baseball cap on your back – and that was when you were wearing a lot of gold chains, I guess.”
‘General Hospital’ star Lisa LoCicero notes that her character “One Life to Live” was voted the “worst written role” on the soaps.
There isn’t much of an age gap between them in real life, even though they play mother and son on the show.
“I remember meeting you and thinking, “Wow, she’s very beautiful,” and yes, it’s a little implausible that I could be your son, but that didn’t matter,” explained Zamprogna. “I felt like we were able to take advantage of our friendship that we built very quickly and our bond when we were in front of the camera and it was real.”
General Hospital airs on ABC on weekdays.
