Gary Glitter, who was jailed for 16 years in 2015 for attempted rape, is languishing behind bars while his backing band plans a comeback concert featuring some of the disgraced singer’s songs
Shamed rocker Gary Glitter’s backing band is making a comeback.
Glitter languishes behind bars for child sex crimes.
But a musician who helped propel him to stardom is lining up a gig featuring some of the disgraced singer’s songs.
The concert is being put together by John Rossall, one of the original members of The Glitter Band. It will be a rare chance to hear some of the star’s hits live following his fall from grace.
Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, was jailed for 16 years in 2015 for attempted rape and having sex with a girl under 13.
Now The Original John Rossall Glitter Band is to perform in June at Le Public Space in Newport, south Wales. John, left, who was musical director of the original Glitter Band, has previously admitted that being associated with the shamed glam rocker had ruined his life.
Speaking in 2008 he said:”I’ve not even spoken to Gary for 30 years and every day I have to speak about him.
“We were not even that close when we were working with him.
“Glitter was difficult to work with even when we first met him in 1964/65 when we were his backing band in the Starr Club in Germany.
“He was always a prima dona really.
“It seems like every time we get a series of gigs together and some sort of comeback is on the cards he will get arrested and we lose a lot of shows.
“People come to the gigs and they understand that the band and the songs are quite separate from the whole situation.’’
