Fans of Vera have been distracted by the detective’s changing appearance and have stated that they “didn’t recognize him.”
On Sunday night, VERA supporters were delighted to see their favorite detective, DCI Stanhope, and her sidekick Aiden Healy, solve another mystery murder.
On Sunday night, Series 11 of Vera premiered the first of two feature-length episodes.
DCI Vera Stanhope (Brenda Blethyn) and her partner Aidan Healy (Kenny Doughty) were back on the case of a guy who had been battered to death. Despite the fact that many were overjoyed to see the cop drama return to television, others were distracted by Mark Edwards’ (Riley Jones) debut.
The first episode of Series 11 opened with the discovery of local builder Jim Tullman’s body on the steps of Tynemouth’s Collingwood Monument, beaten to death.
Vera wondered aloud as she and her team began to work how a seemingly beloved man could be targeted so cruelly.
The mystery was heightened when she learned that Jim was scheduled to testify in court as a critical witness in a brutal assault.
As the beloved detective dug deeper into Jim’s past, she discovered unresolved animosity between his estranged wife Barbara and adoring son John Paul.
Mark was back in the office doing some background work while Vera and Aiden were out talking to witnesses and trying to piece together a picture of their victim.
However, spectators were distracted by Mark’s new look when he first appeared on TV.
Mark is usually portrayed by an actor with blonde hair.
However, in Sunday’s episode, the celebrity shaved his head, and audiences adored his new look.
“Watching new #vera and oh my, Riley Jones new look is amazing,” one fan wrote on social media.
“I enjoy the fresh look.”
“Loving @Riley Jones 88 new look in #Vera,” wrote another. “You are quite attractive.”
“I can’t get my head around Marks Hair cut @Riley Jones 88 #Vera,” a third viewer remarked.
Another posted, “Omg he looks so different with his hair cut I scarcely recognized him.”
“A bit surprised to see you with a shaven head,” said a fifth.
During the episode, Riley also resorted to social media to ask his followers if they were enjoying it so far.
“Making a brief pit stop on the long drive back to London to stretch the legs and quick in on you lot,” he said, referring to his 8,000 followers. So far, how do you like the first episode? #Vera”. “Brinkwire News in Condensed Form.”
