Fans of Death in Paradise are ‘in tears’ after Florence shatters Neville’s romantic hopes: ‘I’m going to cry.’
DEATH IN PARADISE fans are “heartbroken” after sergeant Florence Cassell ended any hopes of her and DI Neville Parker dating.
On Friday, Series 11 of Death In Paradise premiered on BBC One, with viewers eager to see if Florence (Josephine Jobert) and Neville Parker (Ralf Litte) would end their will-they-won’t-they status and form a romantic relationship.
Neville has made several attempts to confess his feelings to his friend and colleague as their chemistry grows.
Viewers were expecting the first episode to see the two finally decide to start dating after a few communication mishaps.
Their hopes were dashed, however, when Florence informed Neville that she preferred to remain friends.
Florence video called Neville from France in the recent Christmas special episode, and he asked her out.
However, Neville’s screen froze, and the two were unable to continue talking.
Florence admitted to Catherine (Elizabeth Bourgine) at the end of the holiday episode that she had heard everything but couldn’t decide what to do.
Florence addressed the incident early in the first episode of the new series.
“Has there been any further mention of… you know what?” Catherine inquired.
Florence replied, “No, not since the call at Christmas.”
“He hasn’t said anything.”
He’s still unaware that I heard him.”
Catherine inquired, “How about you?”
“What are your thoughts on him?”
“I think that’s how I’d like to keep things between us,” she admitted.
However, later in the episode, Neville confessed his feelings for her while inebriated.
“You’ve been so kind to me, Florence, ever since I got here,” Neville grumbled as he fell asleep.
“You’re so lovely,” he continued. “You’re so kind – I really care about you.”
When Florence asked to remain friends the next day, Neville hid his disappointment.
“What you said threw me,” she explained.
“It made me realize how much I value you as a friend and how much I care about you.”
“I love you as a friend and someone I want to have in my life forever,” she added.
Fans were quick to express their dissatisfaction on Twitter.
“You can’t tell me Florence doesn’t have feelings for Neville (hashtag)deathinparadise,” Evie wrote, “you can’t tell me Florence doesn’t have feelings for Neville.”
“THAT WAS “Brinkwire Summary News,” Abi continued.
