The Paramount(plus) Trailer for ‘South Park’ Teases Older Main Characters.
South Park is getting a new Post Covid special from Paramount(plus), and a new trailer for it has revealed older versions of the show’s main characters.
In the video, an adult Stan receives a call from Kyle, who reminds him that when they were younger, they “always be there for each other when things got bad,” to which Stan responds, “What do you mean? What’s happened?”
Stan is later seen talking with his father, Randy, who is now an elderly gray-haired man in a motorized chair.
Stan yells at his father, “No one wants another one of your marijuana specials!”
“It’s not a one-of-a-kind,” Randy says.
This is a joke referencing the South Park Pandemic Special from 2020, in which Randy advertised a “pandemic special” on marijuana grown and sold through his Tegridy Farms company.
“What happened to the children who lived through the Pandemic?” asks Paramount(plus) in a brief synopsis of the new special. “Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny survived, but will never be the same Post Covid.”
“On Paramount(plus), only at 25.”
Earlier this week, Paramount(plus) announced that it had placed orders for a number of South Park films to be released exclusively on the streaming service.
The news came shortly after Comedy Central announced that the long-running animated series had been renewed for a 30th season.
The companies announced their future plans for South Park, which will air on Comedy Central until at least 2027, in a press release.
In addition, 14 original made-for-streaming South Park movies, including the Post Covid special, will be available on Paramount(plus).
Trey Parker and Matt Stone, co-creators of South Park, issued a joint statement expressing their excitement for the show’s new plans.
“Comedy Central has been our home for the past 25 years, and we’re thrilled that they’ve committed to us for the next 75,” they said.
“When we approached ViacomCBS with a new way to produce the show during the pandemic, Chris (McCarthy), Nina (Diaz), Keyes (Hill-Edgar), and Tanya (Giles) were immediately supportive and allowed us to try something new, which turned out to be extremely well received.”
We’re excited to return to doing traditional South Park episodes, but we can also experiment with new formats now.
It’s wonderful to have partners who are always willing to take a chance with us.”
