Dusty Hill was the mother of ZZ Top bassist Dusty Hill, who was inspired by an encounter with Elvis Presley.

ZZ TOP bassist DUSTY HILL died today at the age of 72. Elvis Presley was a huge fan of the rock legend, and his mother had an interaction with the King that inspired him to follow in his footsteps.

ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons and Frank Beard reported today that Dusty Hill, the band’s long-serving bassist, died in his sleep at the age of 72. In 2017, this website had the pleasure and fortune of seeing ZZ Top headline Ramblin’ Man Fair, where Dusty led the band in a rendition of Jailhouse Rock as their encore. In the 2019 documentary film ZZ Top: That Little Ol’ Band From Texas, the bassist speaks affectionately of his Elvis Presley devotion.

Dusty showed the documentary film crew around some of his Elvis Presley collectibles at his house in Texas.

“I’ve always been a tremendous Elvis fan,” the ZZ Top bassist stated. I have Elvis memorabilia all throughout the house.

“I used to carry so much on the road that I had to get a separate dressing room… it started to feel weird!”

And it turns out Dusty’s mother knew Elvis Presley before he became famous, and their meeting inspired her son to follow in his footsteps.

“When I was a youngster, my mother worked as a server, and Elvis used to come into the restaurant where she worked,” Dusty explained. Outside of Memphis, he was somewhat unknown at the time.

“He had a record on the jukebox,” says the narrator. When we went back to Dallas, she carried it with her, and I used to sing to it.”

Dusty began singing in public at the age of eight and discovered that people would toss quarters at him — the rest is history.

The death of the bassist was confirmed today on the official ZZ Top social media pages.

ZZ Top (@zztop) shared a post.

“We are grieved by the news today that our Compadre, Dusty Hill, went away in his sleep at home in Houston, TX,” his two surviving bandmates said in a statement.

“We shall miss your constant presence, your excellent disposition, and your persistent devotion to offering that monumental bottom to.”Brinkwire Summary News”.
