Donny Osmond breaks his silence after a harrowing 12-month journey that saw him lose his ability to walk.
DONNY OSMOND stated he was unable to walk for a year after suffering a “secondary infection” that rendered him immobile.
For the first time, Donny Osmond, 63, has spoken out about his recovery after being unable to walk. The singer said that he had contracted a “secondary infection” that had rendered him practically paralyzed and immobile.
I kept quiet about what was going on with me.
Donny Osmond is an American singer and songwriter.
After his final Las Vegas act in 2019, the frightening 12-month ordeal began.
After losing feeling in his arms and legs during the final song, Donny didn’t notify anyone and continued singing and dancing as if nothing had happened.
“I couldn’t feel my arms, then my legs, and then I couldn’t feel my legs,” the music legend claimed in a new interview.
“I kept dancing and finished the show without telling anyone what was wrong with me.”
But he had no idea what was about to happen.
When Donny finally sought medical help, physicians discovered that his spine had “shifted.”
This was due to previous injuries, including one received in 2009 when he won the American version of Strictly Come Dancing.
He wasn’t prepared for the long aftermath of back and neck surgery while recovering at his home in Utah.
He shook his head and said, “I thought everything was going to be fine, but it couldn’t have been worse.”
“I had a secondary infection, which rendered me immobile.”
When asked if he was concerned that he would never be able to walk again, he replied, “Of course, completely.” It certainly occurred to me.
“However, I simply refused to take no for an answer.”
Instead, he had to go through months of rehabilitation in order to get back on his feet while utilizing a walking frame.
Donny also gave credit to his 43-year-old wife Debbie, with whom he has five sons and 12 grandchildren.
He smiled as he said, “She knows exactly the kind of resolve I have.”
“She had a feeling I’d be fine!”
And as the months passed, Donny gradually improved his walking ability, seeing the trauma as a “gift in disguise” because it allowed him to focus on his songs and release a new album.
His latest album, Start Again, is the first on which he co-wrote and produced every song, with the lead single Who rocketing to the top of the charts.
