Don Everly, farewell… ‘The curtain has come down on the greatest rock duo in history.’

Don Everly, the king of harmony, died on August 21, 2021, at the age of 84, and the rock and roll world paid tribute to him yesterday.

Seven years after his brother Phil, a founding member of the legendary Everly Brothers, took his final bow, he died at his Nashville home. “Don lived by what he felt in his heart,” according to a statement released on his behalf by his family. Don thanked God for allowing him to “live his dreams…with his soulmate and wife, Adela, and sharing the music that made him an Everly Brother.”

On Saturday, no cause of death was disclosed. However, the news shocked millions of followers.

“Very sad day,” remarked Dave Davies, 74, a founding member of The Kinks. Growing up, both of the Everly Brothers were a part of my musical life.

“Their amazing records, as well as their singing and voices, inspired us. My favorite as a kid was Wake Up Little Susie.”

“With so many songs in the Everly Brothers collection, it’s hard to pick a favorite, they’re all so good,” Marty Wilde, 82, remarked. Forever in peace.”

“Farewell, Don,” Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber said. The greatest rock duet in history has finally come to an end. The Everly Brothers were the forefathers of today’s rock vocal harmonies.”

“No singers from my schooldays meant more to me than the Everly Brothers,” Tim Rice remarked.

Don and his younger brother Phil were one of the finest vocal duos of all time, influencing bands such as The Beatles.

In the late 1950s and early 1960s, they enjoyed worldwide hits with songs like All I Have To Do Is Dream and Walk Right Back, two of four UK chart-toppers.

The siblings had an onstage breakup in 1973, which led to a decade of separation, but they reunited in 1983 at the Royal Albert Hall in London for a reunion concert.

The Everly Brothers, along with Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, and Chuck Berry, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in its inaugural year, 1986.

In 1997, they received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and Don was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame in 2019.

Isaac Donald Everly was born on February 1, 1937, in Brownie, Kentucky, into a musical household with his brother. Ike, their coal miner father, was an accomplished guitarist.

“Brinkwire Summary News,” The Everly.
