Does the Duke of Hastings make an appearance in the Bridgerton books?
BRIDGERTON will return to Netflix for a second season, but without breakout actor Rege-Jean Page. Is the Duke of Hastings mentioned again in the books?
The account of Daphne Bridgerton’s courting of Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings, is intriguing in Bridgerton. With his steamy scenes with Phoebe Dynevor, Rege-Jean Page became the series’ breakout star, but he will not return for the second season. Is there reason for supporters to get thrilled about a possible cameo at a later date?
The Duke of Hastings is not a key character in Julia Quinn’s official eight-part series.
There is some chance for a reunion, as the couple is mentioned in the 2013 short story collection The Bridertons Happily Ever After.
The Duke of Hastings and his bride return in the short novella The Duke & I: The Second Epilogue, albeit 21 years later.
“Midway through The Duke and I, Simon refuses to accept a bundle of letters addressed to him by his late estranged father,” author Julia said on her website about the novel.
“Daphne takes the letters and hides them, expecting him to alter his mind later, but when she offers them to Simon at the end of the book, he refuses to open them.
“I hadn’t planned for him to do this; I’d always assumed the letters would include something significant and significant.
“However, it became evident to me as Daphne held them out that Simon didn’t need to read his father’s remarks.
“It didn’t matter what the late duke thought of him in the end.
“Readers were curious as to what was in the letters, but I must admit that I had no idea.
“What piqued my curiosity was what it would take to persuade Simon to read them…”
While the narrative is short and does not go into as much detail about their relationship as The Duke and I, Bridgerton fans might get a glimpse of more Rege-Jean if the short stories were included in the series.
This story may make a great Christmas special, but Rege-Jean would have to agree to come back first.
