Director David Gordon Green of ‘Halloween Kills’ Confirms ‘Halloween I, II, and III’ Callbacks in Horror Sequel.

Halloween 2018 was a direct sequel to Halloween 1978.

The horror sequels became so muddled with numerous timelines that screenwriters David Gordon Green, Danny McBride, and Jeff Fradley threw out all bar the first. Green has already directed and will direct Halloween Kills, with McBride continuing to work on the script.

This time, they mention not only Halloween II from 1981, but also Halloween III: Season of the Witch, which doesn’t even feature Michael Myers.

On Oct. 6, Green and producer Malek Akkad participated in a Zoom conversation with the press.

They revealed how Halloween Kills not only revisited the 1978 original, but also its first two sequels. Halloween Kills will be released in cinemas and on Peacock on October 15th.

‘Halloween Kills’ returns to the 31st of October, 1978.

Halloween Kills is set on the same night as the previous film’s Halloween. Hawkins (Will Patton) is a young cop (Thomas Mann) during the time, yet he interacts with the 1978 Michael Myers.

To do this, Green stated that the art crew meticulously replicated the house from the 1978 picture.

They simply did an outstanding job of ensuring that every peeling piece of paint, every cobweb, and every damaged gutter part was replaced.

The front yard even has a replica of the tree in the front yard. Thankfully, we had a fantastic staff of Halloween enthusiasts who were methodically going through every aspect. Chris Nelson, who rebuilt the 1978 mask, comes to mind as well. So we’re just a group of dedicated individuals who are continually encouraging one another to do our best and honor the heritage, not just in the reconstruction of the film’s structural aspects, but also in the techniques, camerawork, and editing of the sequences. We attempted to imitate Carpenter’s work from the 1970s.

Look for Easter eggs from ‘Halloween II’ and ‘Halloween III’ in ‘Halloween Kills,’ as well. Green acknowledged that Halloween Kills acknowledges the existence of Halloween II.

The first sequel begins on November 1st, as police continue to pursue Michael Myers and Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is taken to the hospital.

Even odd, Halloween III: Season of the Witch was the franchise’s first effort at a tale that didn’t revolve around Michael Myers. Green decided to give it some attention as well.

In October 2021, the 1978 and sequel ‘Halloween’ films will be released in theaters; here’s when you can see them.”
