Details on the X-Men spinoff Knights of X have been revealed by Marvel.

Excalibur is mutating into a new Marvel Comics series for the Destiny of X era, based on the X-Men series.

Captain Britain recruits nine other mutants to protect their kind and restore order in the mystical realm of Otherworld, as writer Tini Howard (Excalibur and X of Swords) teams up with artist Bob Quinn (Way of X) in Knights of X.

Excalibur ended with the evil Merlyn seizing control of Otherworld and the Starlight Citadel.

With an army of Furies the size of Sentinels, he also controls Otherworld.

The Knights of X will be on the lookout for an artifact with a deep connection to the X-Men’s past, according to Marvel.

Rictor, Shatterstar, Gambit, Rachel Summers, Bei the Blood Moon, Gloriana, and two more mystery characters join Betsy BraddockCaptain Britain in Knights of X.

Knights of X, as Howard explains, features several members of Excalibur’s past.

“At the conclusion of Excalibur, we saw Merlyn seize control of the Otherworld, transforming the Starlight Citadel into the Lunatic Citadel, and waging war on mutants from Saturnyne’s former throne.”

“Even with the entire Corps by her side, it’ll take more than an army of one to bring down King Arthur and his Furies,” Howard explained.

“You’ll recognize many of the Knights from Excalibur’s past – both my run and the classic – as they embark on a quest for a priceless treasure that collides our high fantasy tale with the most classic X-Men story – fighting for a(n Other)world that hates and fears them.”

“After the incredible run that Tini Howard and Marcus To had on Excalibur, launching the follow-up series is both exciting and intimidating,” Quinn said.

“But I’m putting everything I’ve got into this series, and I’m proud to say that these are the best pages I’ve ever drawn.”

I’m a big fan of the Otherworld.

I’ve drawn Midwest farms, New Jersey neighborhoods, and Central Park in my Marvel books, and I’m looking forward to letting my imagination run wild in Otherworld!”

Knights of X will be released on April 13th.
