Debbie Reynolds discovered that her career was characterized by ‘Star Wars’ as much as it was by Carrie Fisher’s

Star Wars characterized Carrie Fisher’s career. She often (and hilariously) lamented the superiority of Princess Leia over her life in memoirs, speeches, interviews and even an HBO special.

But even if her shivering was caused by the sight of her head on a Pez dispenser, Fisher genuinely loved Leia and all that Star Wars meant to her life.

Debbie Reynolds, Fisher’s mother, was also a movie icon, though she did not have the one role that defined her. Though she appeared in some of the most beloved films in Hollywood (Singin ‘In the Rain is one of the greatest films of all time), few movie characters left an impact as enduring and indelible as Princess Leia, Han Solo and Luke Skywalker.

Even Reynolds was aware that this was valid. The late star acknowledged in a 2011 interview that Star Wars had shaped the public’s opinion of her.

The life of Debbie Reynolds made Carrie Fisher popular, but she was brought to new heights by “Star Wars”

Reynolds was one of Hollywood’s biggest Golden Age icons. She got a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer after winning a beauty contest at the age of 16 and acted in more than 30 films during her lifetime, most of them musicals.

Her private life was as popular as that of her professional life. In 1955, Reynolds married singer Eddie Fisher (although Frank Sinatra cautioned her not to), giving birth in 1956 to her daughter and in 1958 to her son.

The same year that Todd Fisher was born, Eddie left Reynolds for Elizabeth Taylor, her close friend. “mad tabloid”mad tabloid.

Just as Reynolds, in the spotlight, lived her life, so did her daughter.

Prior to landing the coveted role of Princess Leia in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Dream, Fisher only had a supporting role in a film called Shampoo.

Before Shampoo, Fisher and her brother often participated in their mother’s stage shows, which Reynolds performed for most of her life after her second and third marriages led to financial ruin.

As if she wasn’t famous enough thanks to her parents’ notorious love triangle, when she wore those famous space buns, Fisher even became a pop culture icon herself.

During the filming of “Star Wars,” Carrie Fisher wrote a tragic poem about her affair with Harrison Ford.

“Star Wars” described the career of Carrie Fisher and also the legacy of her family.

Basically, in the 1950s and 1960s, Reynolds was Hollywood royalty.

She has collected Oscar, Golden Globe and Tony awards throughout her career and received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the Oscars in 2017. She also received an award in 2005 for her large collection of Hollywood costumes, a collection that included the notorious white dress from The Seven Year Itch by Marilyn Monroe and the Cleopatra headdress by Taylor. (She dreamed of her collection becoming a museum, but it never came to fruition).

Reynolds had a good guest appearance in Will & Grace in the later years of her life as the mother of Debra Messing, who was essentially a parody of herself. She starred in Behind the Candelabra, the Emmy-winning HBO film, in 2014.

And she’s also found a way for younger audiences who didn’t grow up in the Golden Age to make themselves known and loved – the first time many millennials ever saw Reynolds was on the Disney Channel as Grandma Aggie in Halloweentown.

And yet, even with her popularity behind her for decades, Reynolds said in a 2011 interview with The Daily Beast that her reputation is still characterized by Star Wars.

“I’m the mother of Princess Leia,” she said.

Why all the fuss over Carrie’s admission that Harrison Ford had an affair with her? I must admit I was sleeping with her boyfriend! After the latter disclosed her affair with Harrison Ford, Debbie Reynolds defended Carrie Fisher.

Indeed, for the two, “Star Wars” was a genuine family affair.

And another thing the mother-daughter couple had in common was A-list affairs.

In her 2016 memoir “The Princess Diarist,” when Fisher disclosed her affair with Harrison Ford, Reynolds took her daughter to task, poking fun with Eddie Fisher in the previous drama.
