Never was Dawson’s Creek a series that shied away from sex.
The main characters appear to rush to talk about sex from the very first episode of Season 1 onwards.
Even if they weren’t talking about it, then they were dreaming or they were doing it. Sex is, indeed, a recurrent theme in Dawson’s Creek’s six seasons.
But did Dawson Leery and Joey Potter, the two soulmates, ever sleep together in the series?
In Dawson’s Creek, Dawson and Joey certainly have one of the most dynamic relationships.
They are introduced in the first episode as lifetime best friends who grew up together. Actually, the two are so similar that Joey sometimes stays over at Dawson’s place, even though at the beginning of the series they are both well into their teens.
But there is an underlying romantic desire and sexual tension beneath their relationship that develops as the series progresses.
Joey and Dawson have both found it difficult to be in a serious relationship.
Of course, Dawson’s Creek fans know that Joey ends up dating Pacey Witter, Dawson’s other best friend and platonic soulmate.
But Joey and Dawson are always repeatedly playing the “do you want her or don’t you want her” game. At different points in the story, Joey and Dawson also date briefly, but somehow their relationship never seems to last longer than a few months. There’s always a reason why their relationship does not work out, whether it’s the death of Dawson’s father, Dawson ratting out Joey’s father for drug possession, Joey’s feelings for Jack, or Joey’s desire to be introspective.
This cast member of “Dawson’s Creek” almost played a completely different role in the film.
Have Dawson and Joey ever slept together at all?
Although many fans were angry that Joey and Dawson didn’t end up together, it made sense that as friends the two were better off.
Their intimate bond was often fraught with confrontation. Even when they were actually sleeping together, the drama stopped.
Joey and Dawson eventually slept together in the sixth and final season of Dawson’s Creek after yearning for each other for years. The two finally shared the intimate night together in episode 2, named “The Song Remains the Same,” that fans had hoped for since the first episode.
For this reason, Katie Holmes postponed her “Dawson’s Creek” audition.
Unfortunately, the long awaited reunion of Dawson and Joey was short-lived. Joey finds out soon after they sleep together that Dawson is in a relationship with an actress he is working with.
This upsets Joey, of course, when she learns that Dawson essentially cheated on his girlfriend to be with her.
Dawson, in fact, is disappointed with Joey because he feels she tries to find a reason not to be together.
The two disagree, as usual, and ultimately go their separate ways.
With all their pining, it’s surprising that, in the background of their relationship, Dawson and Joey only slept together one night.
But it makes a lot of sense, given that the essence of their connection was always rooted in friendship. Although some Dawson’s Creek fans are still disappointed that the soulmates didn’t romantically get together, no one can argue the pair didn’t give it an old college try.
