A catfished volleyball player spends £590,000 on a lovely Brazilian beauty he claims to be dating.

Roberto Cazzaniga spent years wiring money to a woman he mistook for Brazilian model Alessandra Ambrosio.

He was talking to a 50-year-old woman on the phone.

A professional volleyball player was duped into believing he was dating a well-known Brazilian model, resulting in a financial loss of (dollar)700,000 (£590,000).

Roberto Cazzaniga, 42, is an Italian volleyball player in the second division who, until recently, thought he was dating model Alessandra Ambrosio.

Alessandra is dating fellow model Robert Lee, who she is currently vacationing with in Hawaii, according to her social media posts from this week.

In 2008, a friend gave Roberto a phone number claiming to be that of a woman named Maya who wanted to meet him.

Maya, a 50-year-old woman, stated early in their phone conversations that the name was a fictitious name and that she was Alessandra.

In an interview with Italian media this week, Roberto described how he moved the catfish (dollar)700,000 over a period of years.

He turned to friends and family for help in getting the money.

According to those accounts, the con artists approached Roberto and asked for money, claiming that they were having problems with an ATM and an inheritance tax.

Her busy work schedule and heart condition, they added, prevented her from meeting him.

Roberto told Italy’s Corriere della Sera, “No, we’ve never met.”

“She made a slew of excuses, including illness and work obligations.

Despite this, I became enamored with that voice after each call.

Manuela, the friend who provided him with the phone number, her boyfriend, and Valeria, a 50-year-old woman from Sardinia who pretended to be Alessandra on the phone, were all involved in the sophisticated scheme to defraud the athlete.

According to Corriere della Sera, Roberto’s teammates thought of him as shy and inexperienced, and it was they who suspected the ruse and demanded an investigation.
