Brian May, the guitarist for Queen, has announced a 30th anniversary edition of his debut record.
BRIAN MAY revealed today that his debut solo album, Back to the Light, will be reissued this year.
Brian May, the legendary guitarist for Queen, shocked his fans today by announcing the reissue of Back to the Light, one of his most memorable albums. This re-release of the 1992 album comes on the heels of its 30th anniversary.
Brian remarked of re-releasing his debut album, “I was a little nervous at first, thinking what this was going to dig up in me?” But it was great fun getting back in there.
“All I hope is that it will resonate with folks who have never heard anything like this before. They recognize me as Queen’s guitarist. Some people think of me as an astronomer. Some people know me as an animal rights activist.
“I’m a type of 3-D Victorian Stereoscopy evangelist.” However, only a few individuals have heard my solo work. So I’m looking forward to seeing how this plays out.”
“It was intriguing going back in there and learning why I wrote certain things,” the 73-year-old continued. They meant a lot to me. This is how we recorded. Some of it is so massive in the recording that I can’t believe we got it done – some of it is truly epic. And that appeals to me.”

“At the same time, there are little areas of it that are very plain, very subtle, very emotionally naked,” Brian continued.
“I still feel a lot of what I’m expressing in the album,” she says. Those dangers, concerns, hopes, and dreams are still with me.”
On August 6, 2021, the reissued album will be available in stores.
Back to the Light has been restored by Grammy Award winner Bob Ludwig, who has worked with the likes of Beyoncé, to add some more oomph to the album.
Back to the Light was first released on September 28, 1992, however it has since become incredibly rare.
The 12-track album is now available as a Collector’s Edition box set, which includes a special white vinyl LP.
Two CDs, a 32-page collectible booklet, a 12” art print, a download card, and an enamel badge are all included in the box.
A total of 1000 copies of the box set are available.
