Brenda Blethyn, star of Vera, opens out about her desire to have children: ‘It did cross my mind.’
BRENDA BLETHYN stated that she has never had a “strong desire” to start a family.
Brenda Blethyn, 75, explained why she never had children, saying she never felt obligated to do so. In 2010, the Vera star married her second husband, Michael Mayhew, but she admitted that having children was never a “pressing ambition” of hers.

“It did cross my mind – obviously not now – that I may consider adopting some.
“It’s just because they’re there and they’re looking for a place to call home.”

The actress, who recently wrapped filming on the first four episodes of Series 11, also revealed the true reason for her long relationship with Michael.
After 35 years of dating, the couple married 35 years after he proposed.
They met after she divorced her first husband, Alan Blethyn, whom she married at the age of 19.
After an even longer engagement than her parents, she and Michael, a former art director at the National Theatre, thought it was the “logical” thing to do to be married.
She told Radio Times about the reasons for their decision to wait.
She explained, “We were getting on a little and that felt like the rational thing to do.”
“We weren’t planning on going anywhere, so it’s only a problem if one of us pops our clogs.”
“It wasn’t romantic!” she laughed.
“However, being married feels really wonderful — it’s just different.
“It was a gorgeous ceremony, and the only witnesses were Tim Spall and his family.”
“They took us out for the wedding meal at an East Dulwich pub,” she continued.
“He’s a sweetheart, and he and his family are among our closest friends.”
Brenda proceeded to rave over her other half, expressing her gratitude for having Michael as her husband.
She said, “He’s simply so talented and clever.”
