Below Deck: Captain Lee says he and the crew were humiliated during the first season by the worst tip given.

Even though “Max and Dax” left a $12,000 tip in season 8 of Below Deck, it was definitely not the lowest amount ever earned by the crew.

Recently, Captain Lee Rosbach and boatman Eddie Lucas spoke about the lowest tip the crew got during Season 1.

After the crew jumped through several hoops and endured a number of highly uncomfortable experiences, the guests in question left a tip of $5,000. Rosbach told Bravo Insider, “They left us the worst tip of the year,”

Rosbach reported that he was offended.

“I think the whole crew was, especially given the fact that this group was very, very high maintenance, just because of their attitude. I mean, I even took the guy golfing – and I let him win.”

Captain Lee recalls visitors with high-maintenance

Both Rosbach and Lucas remembered that in Season 1, tips were usually very poor. Lucas, who appeared in Seasons 1 through 3, said, “In Season 1, it was like, ‘Why am I doing this? ‘ What? This sucks,'” He recently returned as the boatman for Season 8. “It was frustrating. In Season 1, we worked so hard, and I know I especially worked my butt off. It really hurt to get a bad tip.”

Indeed, they were painfully high-maintenance guests who tipped very poorly. I remember one group—and this was really an odd dichotomy that this group had—a daughter, perhaps 21, 22 years old—a mother, a boyfriend of her mother, a father, a girlfriend of her father.

And they were vegan, only in order to round things out,’ said Rosbach. They picked on each other constantly and fought constantly.

And I was wondering, “Who’s going on vacation with their grown-up daughter, their girlfriend, their ex-wife, and their boyfriend?” What could go wrong? It was strange.

“They caught the daughter eating an egg one morning,” he said. And they left. I was just watching them from the main salon and I was like, you’re kidding me, right? Seriously? In the middle of the Caribbean, you’re on a yacht, and you’re jumping out at your daughter because she ate an egg? One egg. One egg. One egg. One egg. One egg.

But that’s what we’re getting the big bucks for.’ Needless to say, when the cash envelope held just a few thousand dollars, Rosbach and the crew were devastated.

Season 1 of ‘Below Deck’ got the lowest tips yet

The crew of season 1 of ‘Below Deck’ certainly got the lowest tips ever.

Decider made a comparison, winning a total of $56,650 for the season 1 crew.

A total of $168,000 was won by the crew of Below Deck season 5.

“At the end of the day, we already got a paycheck, and a tip is just that – a tip,” Lucas told Bravo Insider. “It’s a positive thing, and I don’t think the tipping in Season 1 was a reflection of our ability to be responsive to the guests’ needs; I just think it was kind of something that a lot of the guests weren’t used to, and they weren’t the best. It was a bit of a shame, but we still had a job to do, and you have to do it.”

Below Deck airs at 9:20 p.m. on Mondays. Bravo on.
