After starring in many Marvel movies, Gal Gadot might be flying high as a Hollywood icon, but the ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ star was on the verge of leaving Hollywood for good.

Apparently, the Israeli actress was so tired of the relentless rejection she got that she was prepared to throw in the towel and stop acting. Fortunately, she got Wonder Woman’s historic job and her life changed forever.

Hollywood rejection was enough for Gal Gadot

Before she began to doubt her prospects as an actress, Gadot had been in the movie industry for a while. In movies like ‘Fast & Furious’ (2009), she had smaller roles, but she didn’t have the success she wanted.

She was actually thinking of giving up acting for good before she got the audition for Wonder Woman.

“This profession, the rejection, ooh man, it’s tough,” Gadot said in a Jimmy Fallon interview that resurfaced in 2017. “I had so many near-rejections and another on-camera test … and another role and another role … And I said to my husband, ‘I’m not sure how long I can take dragging my family to Los Angeles and doing this …'”

Nobody told Gal Gadot she was auditioning for the part of ‘Wonder Woman’

After a regular trip to Los Angeles for a few other auditions, though, things changed for her. She got a call from director Zach Synder when she was there, who would not tell her what part she was auditioning for.

“On the same trip – we were in Los Angeles – I got a call from Zach Snyder who wanted me to audition for this secret role,” Gadot said. “I was like, ‘OK, sure … I’ll do that.'”

As confusing as it sounds to audition for a part without context, playing it is even more difficult.

“You have the lines, you get the lines, but you have no idea what the story is about, who the character is, nothing,”You’ve got the lines, you get the lines, but you don’t know what the story is about, who the character is, nothing.

She was willing to give up acting for the better.

Gadot was still more unsure about the future of her career after the audition. She had to do some soul-searching after returning to her native Israel.

Gadot said, “We shot, did the audition, I went back to Israel to shoot an Israeli film, and I didn’t know if I wanted to continue acting after that,”

For camera testing, she was called back and still had no idea what the job was.

After her agent called her regarding the part, Gadot’s fortunes changed.

Synder obviously liked her and wanted her to come back for tests on tape.

Gadot, however, still had no idea what the role was.

“Anyway, I’m in Israel, I get a call, they tell me they want to do a camera test,” Gadot said. “I’m like, ‘Again? Again, a camera test? Again almost?’ And then I’m like, ‘Okay, whatever, what am I being tested for? What’s the role? And then my agent’s like, ‘They didn’t tell you?’ I’m like, ‘No.’ So nobody knows …”

Gadot finally received a call after passing the screen test while she was on a plane, confirming that she had landed the role. She was so excited that on the plane she started crying, scaring everyone.
