The Beano was created in Dundee by DC Thomson and has been a popular comic book with kids since 1938, when The Dandy was introduced as a companion issue.

Dennis and Gnasher, Minnie the Minx and the Bash Street Kids characters have stood the test of time, and the comic is still popular today with young people.

But a special edition of the Beano is now available, written specifically for adults, reflecting the turbulent events of 2020.

The special issue of the comic, titled BeanOLD, will appear in the daily Beano as an excerpt and features the parents of Dennis the Menace looking back at Zoom quizzes, homeschooling, late Bond movies and shortages of toilet paper.

And they will all be there with the familiar faces of Dominic Cummings, Boris Johnson, Captain Sir Tom Moore, and Marcus Rashford.

In the daily Beano (Beano/PA), the special edition comic will appear as a pull-out.

After losing his job at the Wilbur Brown factory, the first adult issue will feature Dennis’ dad, Mr. Menace, having a new job in the elf service.

Sir Tom Moore, who by running laps in his garden earned more than £ 32 million for the NHS, and Manchester United footballer Rashford, who has advocated for free school meals and child literacy, are visiting Beanotown to receive honorary MBEs (Beano Elf Service Member) for their efforts this year.

They save Christmas while in town by foiling the plot of Wilbur Brown and Walter Softy to steal all the Christmas presents.

BeanOLD (Beano/PA) has been christened as the special edition.

Then, with the aid of his recently deceased Chief Assistant Cummings as the getaway driver, the Prime Minister ends up in town helping Wilbur Brown stage his escape.

After his notorious fall at Barnard Castle during the lockout, the comic also contains a reference to Cummings driving with blurred vision.

There’s also an appearance by environmental activist Greta Thunberg, who offers advice to Dennis’ father about how to grow his own Christmas tree, and a Desperate Dan cameo appearance, the first time in eight years the character has appeared in a comic.

As Dennis’ girlfriend, who has a crush on a celebrity and wants a Christmas gift, Dunkirk actor Tom Hardy also makes a cameo appearance as well.

We’ve built our very own Gnational Elf Service to spread laughs and make the nation smile this winter,” said Mike Stirling, editorial director at Beano Studios.”

“We love making kids laugh every week, but 2020 has been so tough that for the first time in 82 years, we’ve created a comic that kids can pass on to adults to spread some much-needed Beano LOLZ.”

In the current issue of the Beano, which goes on sale on Wednesday, BeanOLD can be found.
