‘Not picking KJ in that battle in my dads words was “not right”. She was so good!!’ wrote a ‘The Voice’ fan
It’s the battles week on ‘The Voice’ Season 21, and the contestants are bringing in their A-game. Each of the coaches- John Legend, Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, and Ariana Grande roped in a celebrity mentor to help their team’s members. While Ari picked ‘Wicked’ star Kristin Chenoweth. Blake roped in Dierks Bentley, Kelly brought in James Aldean, and John sought Camilla Cabello’s help.
John’s team especially KJ Jennings and Samuel Harness was in for a huge surprise. The song that was picked for their battle performance was Camilla and Shawn Mendes’ song ‘Last Summer’, so when the contestants realized that the song’s original singer herself was their mentor they were left speechless. Both KJ and Samuel managed to impress both Camilla and John with their impeccable vocals. The only feedback that was given to them during rehearsals was to vibe with each other and pick up off each others’ energies. Dare we say that the performers took the feedback pretty seriously.

When it was finally time to perform in front of all the coaches and audience, KJ and Samuel’s stage presence and their chemistry totally blew away the coaches. John simply declared that it looked like his team members had a great time performing together. Each of the coaches took turns to share their feedback ad who they were leaning towards as the winner of the battle. While Ariana and Kelly couldn’t stop raving about KJ, John and Blake praised Samuel. As their coach John was asked to pick the winner of the battle, and he surprised everybody by picking Samuel over KJ.
John justified his decision by pointing out the versatility and the huge potential that Samuel had, but fans weren’t entirely on board with the decision. Many fans felt that KJ should have won the battle round as her runs and range were on another level. Unfortunately, none of the other coaches tried to steal or save her, which meant it was time for her to go home. Several fans took to Twitter to express their displeasure with the coaches’ decision.
