Axel Webber is a budding actor who has a lot of people thinking he’ll end up in the hype house.

The term “industry plant” has a negative connotation.

Part of the appeal of social media success stories is that they inspire people to believe that even those with limited resources can achieve widespread success on their own terms.

This is why the theory that Axel Webber is an industry plant on his way to the Hype House is a “scandal” involving influencers.

An industry plant is someone who appears to appear out of nowhere and gain organic fame, but who is actually part of a professional, coordinated effort to make that person famous by industry professionals, production companies, music labels, and others.

Chance the Rapper, who released several well-polished and stellar mixtapes for free on streaming services, was rumored to be an industry plant for a while.

Axel Webber is the newest rumored industry power player.

The TikTok star recently made headlines when he revealed that he had been rejected from Juilliard’s acting program.

On social media, Charlie Puth wished him well.

(Puth was also rejected from the program.)

When Axel was seen partying with Vinnie Hacker, another TikToker from the Los Angeles-based social media collective, rumors of him being a Hype House plant began to circulate.

In a now-viral video posted to his own TikTok account, playwright Jeremy O Harris appears to be the first to raise the possibility of Axel being a “Hype House Plant.”

I need @taylorlorenz to tell me if @Axel is a HYPE HOUSE PLANT or not! (hashtag)vinniehacker what’s tea??

Taylor Lorenz, a technology and internet culture writer for the New York Times, was also tagged by Harris.

She went on to discuss her own thoughts on the Axel Hype House plant theory.

@jeremyoharris Alright, everyone! Here’s what I learned about the Axel conspiracies.

Axel was in Los Angeles, according to Lorenz, and ended up at a party with a group of TikTokers, including Vinnie Hacker.

Because of his ability to gain views online, Axel is being approached by a slew of different entertainment and media companies, but he isn’t a member of the Hype House, and there’s no indication that he plans to join the TikTok collective.

Petrou, for example…
