BRIAN MAY spoke with This Website via Instagram Live this morning at his all-day Back to the Light album launch on Bri-TV, where the Queen guitarist discussed the record’s ties to Freddie Mercury.
Back to the Light, Brian May’s restored debut solo album, was released today. Since the early hours of this morning, the Queen guitarist has been presenting his Bri-TV through Instagram live, and he’s invited This website on for a special guest chat. The 74-year-old mentioned Freddie Mercury’s connection to the record during our Zoom interview (which you can watch here).
Freddie famously gave Brian his consent for Driven By You to be a solo track rather than a Queen song, and Brian’s rendition of Too Much Love Will Kill You on the band’s last album took on a whole new meaning.
“It always used to get confusing because you’d compose a song and then worry, ‘Well, is this too personal to put on a Queen album?’” Brian explained to This website.

“And sometimes the song would be tweaked to become a Queen song, like Headlong or I Can’t Live Without You, for example.
“There were a lot of tunes that could have been solo songs for me, but they ended up being Queen songs,” he says. Brian Harold May (@brianmayforreal) shared a post about how Freddie enjoyed Too Much Love Will Kill You and recorded a Queen version in 1989, which was released posthumously on Made in Heaven in 1995.
“I don’t think I knew what was going on in Freddie’s thoughts at the time because he knew things we didn’t know at the time,” the guitarist stated.
“And he said, ‘Look, I adore this song; we have to make the Queen version.’ “Of course, my version was already done, so there was no need to be careful; we could just.”Brinkwire Summary News”.
