As an injury prevents Ben Shephard from participating in Soccer Aid, Garraway mocks him, saying, “Won’t keep them back.”
As he recovers from knee surgery away from the ITV show, Ben Shephard received a sly swipe from GMB co-star Kate Garraway on Friday morning.
Ben Shephard, a regular on Good Morning Britain and a fan of Tipping Point, announced earlier this month that he had to have knee surgery after a horrible football injury. As a result, the GMB star has been stepping back from presenting duties while undergoing rehabilitation, but this also means he won’t be able to participate in ITV’s Soccer Aid on September 4. On Friday’s episode, Kate Garraway and Charlotte Hawkins reviewed the forthcoming match with Ore Oduba, David Seaman, and Kelly Smith, and Kate couldn’t help but poke fun at Ben.
Soccer Aid is back in September, with some of the biggest names in fame and sports heading to the field for a good cause.
For years, GMB’s Ben has been a consistent performer for England, having played with the likes of Joe Cole, Joe Wicks, and Jamie Redknapp, to mention a few.
He won’t be playing in 2021, but Kelly Smith, a former Arsenal and England footballer, will, and she joined Kate and Charlotte to talk about what supporters may anticipate.
“I’m looking forward to playing with guys like Olly Murs at the Etihad Stadium – and getting some goals past Ore,” Kelly quipped as she took aim at her fellow guest.
England “hated” losing the previous Soccer Aid, according to the former footballer, and he was expecting to help secure victory this year.
Kelly urged followers to attend, saying, “(Come) and support UNICEF and raise as much money as possible” (as possible).
“I believe we raised £9.3 million last year, which was a record, and we raised £50 million in total, so these are huge amounts, and we hope people will buy tickets and come out and have a great time,” she ended.
“It’s for a worthy cause, and as you say, more so this year than ever before -“ Charlotte spoke before being cut off by Kate, who saw an opportunity for a joke.
Kate remarked to her injured co-star, “They don’t have Ben Shephard holding them back this year either, so that’ll help.”
“That could be something they have going for them,” says the author. “Brinkwire News in Condensed Form.”
