Freddie Mercury would have been proud of Brian May and Roger Taylor’s celebration of a major Queen milestone for John Deacon’s Another One Bites The Dust.

You might not realize it when listening to Queen’s fantastic music, yet their best hit was penned by John Deacon. Another One Bites The Dust, written by the departed bassist in 1980, became the band’s best-selling tune, selling over 7 million copies. And now the catchy tune has reached another another fantastic milestone, which Brian May and Roger Taylor are celebrating; one that no doubt Freddie Mercury would have loved.

The music video for Another One Bites The Dust hit 500 million views on the Queen YouTube channel this week.

Brian May wrote in a celebratory video: “Self-explanatory? Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible — you know who you are! ” Roger Taylor, on the other hand, tweeted footage with the caption: “Wow! Thank you to everyone who has helped us get to this point! ” Interestingly, when the bassist initially pitched John’s hit to the band, the drummer had little faith in it.

In this week’s episode of Queen The Greatest, Brian Harold May (@brianmayforreal) said: “John was tugging us strongly in that direction, a sort of weird direction.”

“And John persuaded Roger to play with tape all over his drums, which Roger despised.

Roger despised it when his drums were made to sound dead.” The Queen drummer added, “I didn’t want to get into dance music.” Roger wasn’t convinced when Michael Jackson suggested that the band release Another One Bites The Dust as a single.

“Michael came to numerous gigs, I believe at the Forum in LA, and he liked Freddie,” Roger recalled in a post shared by rogertaylorofficial (@rogertaylorofficial).

‘You guys, you have to put the song out!’ he kept insisting.
